As for Iced Earth - I pretty much say they are a thrashier Iron Maidenesque type band with hints of (old) Metallica melodic abilities

They just switched lead singers on the latest album - Tim Owens. He was the guy that stood in for Halford with Priest when he was off doing his NIN wannabe shit. Higher octave for the band, but great stuff. Not the same as their previous singer, but if you are going to change leads, it is good to make a different enough break

their 1st lp is more punk-influenced metal, but BW is just straight-out metal...
Harley has one of the best bass sounds I've ever heard, too.
